A Guide To Vehicle Age Classifications In Florida

A Guide to Vehicle Age Classifications in Florida

Understanding the Nuances

Florida's vehicle registration laws can be confusing, especially when it comes to classifying vehicles by age. To clarify, here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the complexities.

Classic Cars

A vehicle is considered a classic car in Florida if it is:

  • At least 30 years old
  • Registered with an antique license plate

Antique Vehicles

To qualify for an antique license plate, a vehicle must be:

  • At least 30 years old

Note that there is an exception for vehicles manufactured before 1945, which can qualify as antiques regardless of age.

Antique Trucks

Florida Statute 320.08 states that trucks that are 20 years old or older can be registered with a flat fee of $750.

Classic Car Registration Fees

Classic cars with an antique license plate are exempt from the annual registration fee.
