Griffin's "Black Like Me"

Extended Version a Best Seller

1961 Publication

WEB Griffin, a white journalist, embarked on a daring social experiment in 1959. He disguised himself as a Black man and traveled throughout the Deep South, documenting the rampant racism and discrimination he encountered. Griffin's experiences were chronicled in his groundbreaking book, "Black Like Me," which was initially published in 1961.

In 1961, Griffin released an expanded version of his book, which became an instant bestseller. The updated version included additional chapters and insights, further exposing the horrors of racism in America. Griffin's work played a significant role in galvanizing the Civil Rights Movement and raising awareness about the lived experiences of Black Americans.
